5 Tiny Wild Cats You Didnāt Even Know Existed
(via giphy)
We all know about the iconic big cats like lions, tigers, and jaguars, but did you know most wild felines are actually small? These little wild cats may be tinyāsome even smaller than your average house catābut they make up for their size with bold attitudes and striking appearances. Despite their charm, small wild cats face similar threats as their bigger cousins, including habitat loss, poaching, and conflicts with humans. Unfortunately, they get far less attention in conservation efforts, receiving less than 1% of funding aimed at protecting wild cats. As a result, many of these species remain understudied and under-protected.
Let's take a closer look at some of these fascinating small wild cats:
Rusty-spotted cat: The worldās smallest cat, weighing just 3.5 pounds, is native to India and Sri Lanka. Despite its small size, itās an agile and fierce predator, hunting rodents and birds. The rusty-spotted cat is listed as āNear Threatened,ā and its population is declining.
Black-footed cat: Known as the ādeadliest cat on Earth,ā this Southern African native is only 3.6 pounds but has the highest hunting success rate in the cat family. Itās listed as āVulnerable,ā with fewer than 10,000 individuals left in the wild.
GuiƱa (kodkod): This 5.5-pound cat, the smallest in the Americas, is found in Chile and parts of Argentina. It prefers ground hunting, going after small mammals, birds, and lizards. Itās also āVulnerableā on the IUCN Red List.
Sand Cat: A desert survivor found in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, this 7.5-pound cat is well-equipped for harsh environments. Itās stable in the wild but rarely seen due to its secretive nature.
Pallasās cat: Known for its grumpy expression and thick coat, the Pallasās cat lives in the cold, high-altitude regions of Central Asia. It may look larger than it is, but it weighs just under 10 pounds and is āNear Threatened.ā
Though these small wild cats are often overlooked, theyāre just as important to protect as the big guys. Each species plays a unique role in their ecosystems, and with a little more attention, we can help ensure they continue to thrive in the wild.

Ohio Woman Breaks Silence on Rumors About Haitian Migrants Eating Pets
(via giphy)
Erika Lee, a woman from Springfield, Ohio, unintentionally sparked a viral rumor about Haitian migrants. In a local Facebook group, she claimed her neighbor's daughter's friend found a cat strung up outside a Haitian family's home, suggesting the cat was being prepared for consumption. Lee later admitted she didnāt have firsthand knowledge of the situation, and her neighbor, Kimberly Newton, clarified she also only heard the story from an acquaintance, not directly from her daughter.
Before the rumors were clarified, they spread quickly online, igniting panic across social media. Lee's post mentioned not just cats but also dogs, ducks, and geese allegedly being harmed by the migrants. Springfield officials stated there was no credible evidence or official reports to support these claims. Despite this, the story gained national attention and has been mentioned by political figures and even during the presidential debate, further fueling the controversy.

Lee expressed regret over the situation, stating she never expected the rumor to go beyond her local community. She deleted the post after realizing the extent of its impact, emphasizing she never intended to target the Haitian community. Authorities in Ohio stressed that no credible reports or specific claims have been filed regarding pets being harmed by the immigrant population. Despite her post becoming a talking point in national politics, Lee noted that her intention was simply to inform her neighbors about what she thought was a local concern.

The cats were clearly loving it, lapping up every drop with their tiny tongues going a mile a minute. If you want to treat your own cat, thereās even a simpler recipe called the Mr. Biscuits Martiniājust mix one part milk with six parts water and serve it in style. According to vets, these cat-friendly cocktails are perfectly safe and can even help keep your cat hydrated.
